China Auditors May Avoid U.S. Ban Following Data Accord

Chinese affiliates of the largest accounting firms will find out next week whether they have avoided being barred from leading audits for U.S.-listed companies after some documents at the heart of a series of accounting fraud probes were delivered.

A U.S. administrative law judge is set to rule by Jan. 20 on a Securities and Exchange Commission order seeking to censure or bar five firms after they refused to hand over work papers on 10 clients, citing Chinese law. After the two countries reached an agreement in May, China has shared files on four companies with U.S. regulators.
