Two Women Arrested and Homes Searched in UK Terror Probe

U.K. police arrested two women, including one at Heathrow airport, and are searching homes in north London as part of a terrorism probe.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested and a large amount of money seized at Heathrow, Europe’s busiest airport, today as she was preparing to board a flight to Istanbul, the Metropolitan Police Service said in a statement today. A 27-year-old woman was detained in north west London this afternoon.

Both were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation and instigation of an act of terror, police said. They remain in custody for questioning.

The arrests were “intelligence led and not in response to any immediate threat or risk,” police said in the statement.
