Jets Linebackers Coach Hired as Notre Dame Defensive Coordinator

New York Jets linebackers coach Brian VanGorder was hired as defensive coordinator at the University of Notre Dame, the role he previously held with the Atlanta Falcons and at the University of Georgia.

VanGorder started his coaching career under Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly at Grand Valley State from 1989 to 1991.

VanGorder succeeds Bob Diaco, who left Notre Dame last month to take the head coaching vacancy at the University of Connecticut. It’s VanGorder’s fourth job in four years, as he was defensive coordinator at Auburn University in 2012 before joining the Jets. He was with the Falcons from 2007-11.
