Iran’s President Rouhani to Attend World Economic Forum at Davos

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will attend the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, his first European trip since taking office on Aug. 4, Mehr news agency reported.

Rouhani, will be the first Iranian president to attend the event since Mohammad Khatami who came twice, the first time as president in 2004. Khatami also visited Davos after he left office in 2007.

The trip was announced as nuclear negotiators met in Geneva today to resolve final hurdles to the implementation of an interim agreement to limit Iran’s nuclear program in return for lifting of some sanctions against the Persian Gulf country.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also plans to attend the Davos meeting.
