Markit Final Index of U.S. Manufacturing Rose to 55 in December

The Markit Economics final index of U.S. manufacturing increased to 55 in December from 54.7 a month earlier, the London-based group said today.

A reading above 50 for the purchasing managers’ measure indicates expansion. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists was 54.7, with estimates ranging from 54.4 to 55. The preliminary reading for December was 54.4.

The Markit measure is based on replies from about 85 percent to 90 percent of companies in a poll of more than 600 American manufacturers.
