Congolese Army Says Colonel Mamadou N’Dala Killed in Ambush

The Democratic Republic of Congo commander who led military operations to defeat M23 rebels in the country’s east, Colonel Mamadou N’Dala, died in an ambush in North Kivu province, according to the army.

N’Dala’s “convoy was ambushed on the Beni airport road, he died of his injuries after the attack,” the Forces Armees de la Republique Democratique du Congo, or FARDC, said on its Facebook account today. He “died defending his country,” it said.
