MLB’s N.Y. Mets Sign Pitcher Bartolo Colon, New York Times SaysRob Gloster
The New York Mets agreed on a two-year, $20 million free-agent deal with right-handed pitcher Bartolo Colon, the New York Times reported.
Colon, 40, will join a starting rotation that will be missing Matt Harvey for the 2014 season as he recovers from elbow surgery, the Times said, quoting an unidentified baseball executive.
Colon, who served a 50-game drug suspension in 2012, is a three-time All-Star and was the 2005 Cy Young Award winner for the Los Angeles Angels as the best pitcher in the American League.
He went 18-6 with a 2.65 earned run average in 2013 for the Oakland Athletics, and finished sixth in the AL Cy Young voting.
