Where Airport Loose Change Goes

Spending the loose change people leave behind at airport security

H.R. 1095 TSA Loose Change Act

The Essentials: In the scramble to get through airport security, U.S. travelers left behind $531,395 worth of pocket change in those plastic tubs in fiscal 2012. The Transportation Security Administration spent it on airport projects, such as translating signs into foreign languages. Representative Jeff Miller (R-Fla.) thinks that money should go to the USO and other nonprofit groups that provide airport lounges for members of the military. His colleagues agree: The TSA Loose Change Act passed the House on Dec. 3 and moves to the Senate.
