France, Portugal, Greece, Croatia Advance to Soccer World Cup

France, Portugal and Croatia won to advance to the World Cup, while Greece booked a place at soccer’s showpiece with a 1-1 draw in Romania.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored three second-half goals as Portugal won 3-2 in Sweden for a 4-2 victory over the two-game playoff series. Zlatan Ibrahimovic got both Sweden’s goals.

France, which won the tournament as host in 1998, beat Ukraine 3-0 to advance after losing the first game 2-0 in Kiev.

After a 0-0 draw in the first game, Croatia beat the visiting Iceland 2-0 to go through, while Greece earned its place with a 4-2 series total.

The World Cup is scheduled from June 12 to July 13 in Brazil.
