Japan, APEC May Agree on Carbon Offset Deal, Yomiuri ReportsChisaki Watanabe
Japan may expand clean-energy technology transfer partnerships with Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation members to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions, the Yomiuri newspaper reported today.
Officials are expected to reach agreement during ministerial meetings of the 21-member APEC to be held today and tomorrow in Bali, Indonesia, the paper reported, without saying where it got the information.
Japan has so far signed bilateral deals with eight countries including Indonesia, Laos and Mongolia, according to the website of the foreign ministry.
Under the bilateral mechanism, Japan will cut its greenhouse gas emissions by providing developing nations with low-carbon technology such as energy management systems.
