Top-Ranked Alabama Shuts Out Ole Miss 25-0; Georgia Gets By LSUMason Levinson
T.J. Yeldon rushed for 121 yards as top-ranked University of Alabama remained undefeated with a 25-0 win over No. 21 University of Mississippi.
Ninth-ranked Georgia beat No. 6 LSU 44-41 yesterday as Aaron Murray’s fourth touchdown pass, a 25-yarder to Justin Scott-Wesley with one minute, 47 seconds remaining, was the game winner.
In other games involving teams ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press writers’ poll, it was second-ranked Oregon 55, California 16; No. 3 Clemson 56, Wake Forest 7; fourth-ranked Ohio State 31, No. 23 Wisconsin 24; fifth-ranked Stanford 55, Washington State 17; No. 8 Florida State 48, Boston College 34; and 10th-ranked Texas A&M 45, Arkansas 33.
The Crimson Tide raised their record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference with a home win over Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Alabama was held to three first-half field goals, taking a 9-0 lead into halftime, before Yeldon had a 68-yard touchdown run in the first minute of the second half. The Crimson Tide added a fourth-quarter safety and a 50-yard scoring run by Kenyan Drake to close out the win.
In a game in Athens, Georgia, the Bulldogs raised their record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference, playing their third game against a top-10 team in the first month of the season. Georgia opened their campaign with a 38-35 loss to Clemson and beat South Carolina 41-30. With the loss, LSU fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Murray was 24-of-30 passing for 298 yards and an interception in the win, while LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 372 yards and three scores in defeat.
“We feel like we have everything in front of us still,” Murray said in a televised interview on CBS after the win. “We’ve just got to keep working, keep getting better and keep winning.”
