Nomura Hires Taiwan Equities Business Head From Bank of America

Nomura Holdings Inc. hired Mei-yu Shih from Bank of America Corp. to run equity sales and trading in Taiwan as Japan’s biggest brokerage overhauls its Asia equities business.

Shih, who will be based in Taipei, is a 12-year veteran of Bank of America’s Merrill Lynch unit and had led its Taiwan equity sales division since 2008, according to Aaron Pan, a Hong Kong-based spokesman for Nomura.

Nomura hired Yasuhiro Fujiwara from Bank of America to lead its Asia equities operations excluding Japan in March. Other Bank of America executives to join the Japanese bank include Stanley Wong, who joined as head of North Asia equity distribution and Ajay Gupta, head of client trading for Asia outside of Japan.

The new hire was announced yesterday by Wong in an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg News and confirmed by Pan.
