U.S. Treasury Says Weak European Economy Was Main G-20 Topic

The euro area’s weak economy was the main topic of discussion at the Group of 20 meeting today, a U.S. Treasury Department official said.

The bloc needs to speed up its move toward a more unified banking system, the official told reporters in Washington. The official also said there was a discussion about Japan’s monetary policy and on ensuring those efforts are focused on domestic demand and not for competitive purposes.
