Querrey Beats Troicki to Give U.S. 1-1 Davis Cup Tie With Serbia

Sam Querrey outlasted Viktor Troicki in a five-set match to give the U.S. a 1-1 tie against Serbia entering the second day of their Davis Cup tennis quarterfinal.

Querrey won 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 against Troicki in yesterday’s second match at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. In the opening match, Novak Djokovic won in straight sets against American John Isner.

Brothers Bob and Mike Bryan play doubles today against Serbia’s Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic, with two more singles matches set for tomorrow.

The defending champion Czech Republic leads Kazakhstan 2-0 after the opening day of their best-of-five quarterfinal. Jan Hajeck defeated Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Lukas Rosol then defeated Andrey Golubev 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

France and Argentina are tied 1-1 after the first day of their quarterfinal in Buenos Aires. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Carlos Berlocz in five sets for France’s point, before Argentina’s Juan Monaco evened the score by defeating Gilles Simon in straight sets.

Canada and Italy are tied 1-1 in their quarterfinal in Vancouver after victories yesterday by Canada’s Milos Raonic and Italy’s Andreas Seppi.
