Miami Heat Loss Cuts Short a Ticket Boom
The Miami Heat’s 27-game win streak came to an end last night against the Bulls in Chicago. The loss cost ticket scalpers a potential bonanza. As the Heat were approaching the NBA record of 33 straight wins, set by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers, ticket prices had been jumping dramatically for upcoming games. Will Flaherty at ticket search engine SeatGeek looked into the trends for us and charted where prices were headed. The chart below shows anticipated price increases for Miami games—assuming the Heat went on to tie and break the record. This is the payday speculators missed:
