Oscars Telecast on ABC Increases Audience 2.5% Over 2012 Show

The Oscars telecast on ABC last night drew an estimated 40.3 million viewers, an increase of about 2.5 percent from 39.3 million a year earlier.

The audience of 18-to-49-year-olds, the group targeted by advertisers, increased 11 percent, the Walt Disney Co. network said today in an e-mailed statement, citing Nielsen data. Host Seth MacFarlane, hired to attract younger viewers, helped boost ratings by 20 percent among younger adults ages 18 to 34, ABC said.
