When pondering “destination” business schools, most people think of Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford. But the latest celebrity to make tracks to B-school—former Real Housewives of New York City star Kelly Killoren Bensimon—is bypassing those august institutions in favor of an online MBA program.
The New York Post reported on Jan. 27 that Bensimon has been accepted into an online MBA program for business and finance at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business. In its pickup of the Post story, New York magazine described Bensimon as “your new corporate overlord.” A spokesperson for the school did not return a call seeking comment.
According to her Bravo bio, Bensimon has published three books, including The Bikini Book. She contributes to Hamptons and Gotham magazines and launched Elle Accessories as editor in 2005.
Bensimon isn’t the first celebrity to give B-school a whirl. NBA great Shaquille O’Neal got an MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2005. Supermodel Tyra Banks, of America’s Next Top Model fame, graduated from an executive-education program at Harvard Business School last year. Back in 2010, rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs claimed he was planning to open a business school in Harlem; to date he hasn’t.
