Venezuela Socialist Party Chooses Cabello for Head of Assembly

Venezuela’s ruling party will back Diosdado Cabello to remain as president of the National Assembly today, paving the way for him to take over the government should President Hugo Chavez be declared too ill to remain head of state.

The United Socialist Party of Venezuela unanimously chose Cabello to be their sole candidate for the post, ensuring his victory in today’s vote in congress where they have the majority of seats, lawmaker Fernando Soto Rojas said on state TV.
