Mondays through Thursdays at the Dallas outpost of Boston Consulting Group are oddly quiet. “It’s a bit of a ghost town,” says Senior Manager Kelly Jirovec. Throughout the week, the vast majority of the company’s 170 employees are on the road working with clients. Before Friday, “only our admin people and about 20 percent of our consulting staff will be here,” Jirovec says. “But we wanted to make our office a place where people want to come. It’s home.”

By the weekend, the office—a light-drenched space occupying three stories and 56,000 square feet—is teeming with returning consultants. At 5 p.m. every Friday, the company toasts its traveling team with a happy hour on one of its two enormous terraces.

Employees at the Dallas office (one of 75 BCG locations worldwide), are encouraged to come in on weekends. During the fall, BCG’s café is outfitted with several flat-screen televisions tuned to an NFL subscription package. “People can take a break and watch a game between meetings,” says Jirovec. “It’s a warm environment.” Cowboys fans make the most noise. “Does that surprise you?”
