Sony’s Obsolete Software Exposed Network to Attack, Report Says

Sony Corp.’s use of outdated network software on its PlayStation Network and Qriocity entertainment services has helped hackers steal data on more than 100 million users, according to Computer Bild.

The company used software that was outdated for as long as five years, the report by the online technology publication said, citing server scan logs provided by hacker collective Anonymous. Sony used the OpenSSH 4.4 data-encryption software, while the most recent version is 5.7, it said.
