China's Military-Industrial Complex

The recent flight of China's first stealth fighter heightened concerns in the West that China would soon catch up with the military technologies of the U.S. and Europe. Jennifer Richmond, China analyst at the geopolitical consultancy Stratfor, says it will be years before the Chinese have an effective fleet of stealth fighters. Yet she says the Chinese over the decades have built a core of large defense companies focused on strengthening the country's armed forces and boosting commercial sales of weaponry abroad.
