Major Newspapers Join to Sell Content to Subscribers Online

Ongo Inc., a startup funded by New York Times Co., Washington Post Co. and Gannett Co., began offering an Internet service that aggregates news and information from multiple publications for a monthly fee.

The Web-based service starts at $6.99 per month for a basic subscription and runs no advertising. Modeled after how cable companies sell television programming, Ongo provides newspaper content to subscribers with basic packages that can be enhanced with a la carte offerings, said Alex Kazim, founder and chief executive officer of the Cupertino, California-based company.
