The United Nations wants to send as many as 2,000 more peacekeepers to Ivory Coast as President Laurent Gbagbo maintains a blockade on the headquarters of his rival and violence flares in the west of the country.
“We are asking for reinforcements,” Under Secretary-General Alain LeRoy said in an interview yesterday after briefing the UN Security Council on the situation in the West African nation. “We need them tomorrow. When we will have them I don’t know.”
