Taiwan Expects Record 5.4 Million Visitors This Year

Taiwan expects a record 5.4 million visitors this year, with China contributing 1.5 million of the total and passing Japan as the island’s biggest source of tourists for the first time, a government official said.

Visitor arrivals are likely to grow by a “double-digit” in 2011, Chang Shi-chung, chief secretary at Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau, said by phone today. The bureau raised its target for this year from an original 5 million after arrivals reached 4.51 million in the first 10 months.
