Thai Army Clashes With Protesters, Soldier Killed

Thai security forces fired rubber bullets on anti-government protesters seeking to rally support beyond the capital in a clash that killed one soldier and raised tensions amid a seven-week standoff.

Authorities opened fire on about 5,000 protesters, stopping them from traveling to a fresh-food market north of Bangkok, police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri said by phone. One soldier died after he was shot in the head and at least 18 were injured, said Chatree Charoencheewakul, head of the rescue unit at Thailand’s Health Ministry.
