Introducing TED Fellow: Sharmeen Obaid-ChinoyHelen Walters
Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy graduated from Smith College with a bachelor of arts in economics and government and then went on to complete two master’s degrees from Stanford University in International Policy Studies and Communication. Now, Obaid-Chinoy works as a documentary filmmaker, traveling all over the world to capture the plights of groups from refugees to human rights workers. In 2007, she founded The Citizens Archive of Pakistan, a non-profit whose aim she describes as fostering interest and pride in the culture and history of her native land.
How exactly do you plan to change the world?
By bringing the voices of the ordinary people faced with extraordinary challenges to television screens around the world, I hope to affect change in one community at a time.
