Known as a master computer designer since designing a PC-like "workstation" as a Stanford student. He and three others formed Sun Microsystems to sell the machine.
Licensed computer designs to Cisco's founders while at Stanford, then sold Cisco a startup in 1996 for $220 million.
His $100,000 investment in Google in 1998 is worth more than $1 billion.
