Jobs: Look for Lower Losses in September
The hoped-for dwindling in the pace of job losses for the U.S. economy should continue in September. Action Economics expects the Labor Dept.'s report on U.S. employment, scheduled for release on Oct. 2, to show a 160,000 decline in nonfarm payrolls for the month—below economists' median forecast of a 192,000 decline—vs. a 216,000 drop in August. Such a figure would mark the best reading since last July and would reinforce the view that the payroll contraction will reach its nadir by year-end.
