U.S. stocks ended mixed Tuesday, struggling for a clear direction as investor concerns about corporate earnings undermined strength in energy prices. A rebound in crude oil futures helped to boost ExxonMobil (XOM), Chevron (CVX), Marathon (MRO) and other energy producers.
