Stocks: Another Downer in December?

S&P believes that the damage to investors' confidence from this bear market will foil any attempt by stocks to bounce off recent lows

Besides family and friends, investors had at least one more thing to be thankful for in the days surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday— the stock market's performance in the last week of November. (Alas, much of that holiday cheer vanished on Dec. 1 as the stock market tumbled). In that holiday-interrupted stretch, all major U.S. equity indexes jumped by 10% or more, bookended by the Nasdaq's rise of nearly 11% and the S&P MidCap 400's jump of more than 16.5%.
