John McCain ReLaunches McCain SpaceCatherine Holahan
John McCain is getting serious about social networking. The Republican nominee is relaunching McCainSpace, his MySpace knock-off for McCain supporters.
The site, powered by white label social networking site KickApps, will be formally announced next week during the Republican National Convention.
McCain has faced criticism for not reaching out to younger voters using the new Web tools with which they communicate. While Obama has embraced such tools—building a vast network of supporters and donors on Facebook, MySpace, and his own social network MyBarackObama.com-= McCain has primarily relied on his Web site to drum up donations and votes.
It will be interesting to see whether McCain’s social network can gain traction this late in the game. Online, it seems that the race has been all but decided with Obama grabbing the lions’ share of Web supporters.
