Assessing Your Own Performance as a Leader
Realistically assessing your own performance as a small business owner is an excellent practice. However, being overly critical of yourself is distracting, and over time can undermine your effectiveness and commitment. If you are prone to be too hard on yourself and are ready for a change, dig beneath your self-criticism and take stock of your underlying beliefs. For example, reflect whether you have set reasonable standards for yourself or are being a perfectionist. Are you attempting to master things beyond your reasonable control? Are you trying to live up to the unrealistic expectations of others? Following such inquiries to the point where they help you treat yourself with greater care and respect, will enhance your ability to perform, to thrive, and to lead your employees.
