Stocks Finish Higher

Better than expected earnings from Johnson & Johnson and a rebound in the Empire State manufacturing index lifted equities Tuesday

Major U.S. stock indexes finished higher Tuesday, led by gains in financial and energy issues. Trading was choppy and moderately active, as a mixed bag of economic and corporate earnings reports, and anticipation of first-quarter results from Washington Mutual (WM) and Intel (INTC) due out after the close, kept some investors on the sidelines.
