Some in Southern Baptist Convention Onboard with Climate Change

If real work is going to happen on climate change, I mean the real policy work, the hard realizations that people will need to adapt to a new set of behavior, then in the U.S. we’re going to need a broad swath of the population onboard. And increasingly, that’s happening. In the NYTimes today, another group of influential religious leaders came out calling for more action on global warming. It’s a group of 44 leaders in the influential Southern Baptist Convention, the second largest denomination in the US after the Roman Catholic Church

Here’s the quote that explains why there have to be different paths to a climate change awakening:

“I learned that God reveals himself through Scripture and in general through his creation, and when we destroy God’s creation, it’s similar to ripping pages from the Bible,” said Rev. James Merritt.
