Stocks Fall on Weak Data, Gloomy Bernanke

Anemic first-quarter GDP growth, and downbeat words from the Fed chief on the economy and the banking sector, weighed on the market Thursday

Stocks fell Thursday after a rise in U.S. initial jobless claims and a report said the U.S. economy grew just 0.6% last quarter.

Also Thursday, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke re-ran the previous day's House testimony, this time before a Senate committee. As he did on Wednesday, Bernanke emphasized his worries about the U.S. economy, suggesting more interest rate cuts are on the way from the Fed. He also spooked the market a bit warning that
