Trading: The Uncertainty Principle
This new year has brought little but pain to investors. Even with the Federal Reserve slashing the Fed funds target and discount rates by 75 basis points, the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index has shed 10.8% this year. And despite the S&P's Jan. 22 recovery of more than 36 points from the session's lows, there's no guarantee the market has bottomed. Yet one group of market professionals is rubbing its hands together with glee at the sight of further uncertainty: the short-term traders.
