S&P's analysts see strength in the electronics and footwear categories, and include Best Buy and Walgreen among their top picks

Investors may be worrying about subprime mortgages and the stock market, but the average U.S. family is finishing the last few weeks of summer vacation and staring at the prospect of the return to school and all that it entails. While the end of summer is bittersweet, back-to-school (BTS) shopping is an opportunity for U.S. youth to once again flex their consumer muscle and convince parents of the necessity of the latest consumer-electronics product or flared-leg jeans.
