Movers: Capital One, Thornburg Mortgage, Countrywide, Lowe's, Dendreon
Capital One Financial Corp. (COF) said it will close its wholesale mortgage unit, GreenPoint Mortgage, due to problems in the secondary mortgage markets and take $860 million in charges this year. The company plans to eliminate 1,900 jobs as a result and will no longer originate residential mortgages " at the unit immediately.
