Kitten Mysteries and a Car Talk Question

It was 3:30 in the morning, and I was standing in the knee high grass in the yard of a deserted neighborhood house listening for a kitten. The whole adventure started 8 hours earlier, when I got home and discovered a couple of notes on our car, telling us not to start it up becuase there was a kitten caught underneath the engine. We had borrowed the car from a dealership. So it took me a good 15 minutes to figure out how to open the hood and see that, sure enough, there was a kitten looking up at me.
