Scram, You Dirty Rat

Joseph and Jeffrey Dussich, the father-and-son team who run New York's JAD Corp. of America, have made it their mission to defend their city against the 16 million rats that scamper through its garbage each day. The company's ratproof trash bag incorporates tree bark extract and other essential oils, causing the bags to emit a menthol-and-eucalyptus odor rodents find abhorrent. "I have known quite a few rats in my lifetime," says Joseph, a lifelong New Yorker. "They have very sensitive sinuses." Since November, the 75-employee, $40 million company has sold more than a million ratproof bags. Fast-food chains, place your orders.
