The stronger-than-expected rise in the core CPI caused investors to sell bonds

Bonds fell after the high core CPI reading suggested that the Fed is not going to loosen credit in the foreseeable future, and odds of a rate hike grew. The FOMC at its Jan. 30-31 meeting worried about inflation would fail to moderate as the economy remains resilient.
