Investors Cheer Corning's Bright Results

The maker of glass parts for LCD panels reports stronger sales and earnings for the fourth quarter

Investors were selling shares of telecommunications equipment maker Corning Inc. (GLW) only months ago, as they worried about falling prices of liquid crystal displays used in trendy products such as flat panel desktop monitors and LCD televisions. But the Street often changes its mind. Investors bid up Corning stock on Jan. 24 after the company, which makes the glass substrates used in LCDs, announced stronger sales and profits during the December quarter.
