U.S.-China Talks: Don't Expect the World

Team America heads to Beijing for key discussions this week, but don't look for big progress on trade

China's economic ascendancy creates both wonder and tension within the international community, especially in the U.S. Now get ready for some friction between Washington and Beijing. On Dec. 11, the Bush Administration will release a decidedly mixed report about China's compliance on trade commitments since it joined the World Trade Organization five years ago. The U.S. message is basically: more, better, and faster, please.
