Apple Shares Soar on Sales Outlook

One day after its record close, the iPod maker's stock remains strong thanks to optimism about music-player sales and future products

Holiday gift-giving may augur another banner December quarter for Apple Computer. That's the word from Piper-Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who in a Nov. 16 research note said consumers may snap up as many as 15 million iPods in the last three months of the year.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is expected to announce a new round of products at the MacWorld Expo trade show that kicks off on Jan. 9. Another product that could be introduced: a new video-centric iPod, sporting a larger screen than the current model. Apple's not commenting on the speculation surrounding the phone or other products, and it doesn't forecast iPod sales.
