Wal-Mart Posts Higher Third Quarter Earnings

Home Depot has softer sales than expected but posts slightly better earnings; GM plans a $1.5 billion loan; plus more stocks in the news Tuesday

Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) Posts $0.62 vs. $0.58 third quarter earnings per share (EPS) from continuing operations on a 1.5% US same-store sales rise and 12% total sales rise. Sees $0.88 to $0.92 fourth quarter EPS from continuing operations, resulting in $2.85 to $2.89 fiscal year 2007 EPS from continuing operations.
