Novell and Microsoft to Link Up on Linux Deal
Novell (NOVL) and Microsoft are entering into an unusual partnership with Novell that gives a boost to the Linux operating system, a rival to the software giant's Windows, according to the WSJ.com.
Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) posted 0.5% higher total U.S. Oct. same-store sales and 12% higher total company sales. The company continues to see negative impact from hurricanes last year and its extensive remodel program, and expects flat U.S. November same-store sales.
Prudential (PRU) posted $1.72 vs. $1.46 third quarter Financial Services operating earnings per share (EPS) on a 3.4% total revenue rise. Sees $5.90-$6.00 2006 EPS, based on after-tax adjusted operating income of Financial Services Businesses.

Guess (GES) posted $1.05 vs. 46 cents third quarter EPS on 8.6% higher same-store sales and 31% higher revenue. Sees fiscal year 2007 EPS of $2.75-$2.85 on revenue of $1.3B-$1.35B.
Sharper Image (SHRP) posted a 31% decline in October same-store sales and 17% lower total company sales.
Smith & Nephew PLC confirms it held preliminary talks about possible merger with Biomet (BMET) and that talks are ongoing.
Dynamic Material (BOOM) posted lower-than-expected 30 cents vs. 26 cents third quarter EPS on a 23% sales rise. Continues to believe second half 2006 results will be comparable to those reported during the first half.
CVS (CVS) posted 33 cents vs. 30 cents third quarter EPS on a 9.1% same-store sales rise and 25% total sales rise. Estimates that the acquisition of 701 standalone Sav-on and Osco drugstores had negative impact of about 5 cents per share.
