Airbus: The Ride Just Got Bumpier

Software coordination problems have stalled the A380 and led CEO Streiff to quit. Can successor Gallois clean up the aerospace giant's act?

Airbus' Finkenwerder factory, near the port of Hamburg, is a crown jewel of European aerospace. Its 10,000 employees, including a team of topnotch engineers, design and build the jets that have propelled Airbus to the No. 1 spot in commercial aerospace. Formerly a unit of Germany's Daimler industrial group, it has been affiliated with Airbus for more than 30 years. Airbus only recently invested $1.6 billion to expand the plant, including facilities to accommodate its new doubledecker A380.
