The head of company recruiting in North America discusses what the consumer-products giant looks for in candidates

Steve Bean is the associate director for North America talent supply at consumer-goods giant Procter & Gamble (PG). There, he overseas all undergraduate and graduate recruiting for the company behind popular products such as Swiffer, Gillette, Folgers, Tide, Cover Girl, Pampers, and Duracell. Bean heads all on-campus recruiting and hiring efforts in North America. P&G currently employs over 135,000 people in more than 80 countries. (See BusinessWeek.com, 9/14/06, "Who's Hiring"). After 22 years at P&G, the former industrial engineer is enthusiastic about his company's mantra of creating consumer goods that touch the lives of people everyday.
