On Telephone Telepathy and Chat Robots

E-mail and phone telepathy? A robot that can concurrently have up to 1,000 conversations? A new cancer treatment? All of these are being discussed at this week's British Association for the Advancement of Science conference.

I just read an interesting article on CNet about telephone telepathy. Apparently, a researcher has done a small study showing that people often know which member of their social group is calling or e-mailing them. The study's subjects could guess who it was before they picked up the phone or logged into their e-mail account with 40% accuracy. The researcher concludes that minds of people within social networks are connected.
