Nike and Apple Meet to Move Your Feet

The Walkman proved the exercise-music link was profitable. Now an iPod-Nike running shoe hopes to duplicate that success in the sports arena

Exercise and music. With the Walkman, Sony proved decades ago that toning up and tuning in can be profitably linked. Now Nike and Apple hope to duplicate that success in the sports arena.

In late 2004, Nike forged a similar alliance with electronics giant Philips. The result was the "MP3Run," not exactly the sexiest of names but certainly descriptive enough. The product garnered favorable online reviews but achieved little commercial success.
